Psychoeducation

A Plain Definition

Psychoeducation is teaching people about mental health: what a symptom is, why it happens, what tends to help, and what to do next. It treats you as an intelligent adult who deserves to understand what is going on.

Utilizing psychoeducation is one of the strengths Tatiana brings to her work. Her aim is for people to be empowered and equipped.

Therapy Without It, and With It

TopicWithout PsychoeducationWith Psychoeducation
A Panic Attack"Something is terribly wrong with me.""That was my alarm system, and I know what it does next."
A Blowup at Home"I am just an angry person.""I was flooded. I can catch it sooner."
Burnout"I am lazy.""My stress response has been on for two years."

Where You Will Run Into It

  • In groups, as they form
  • In individual sessions, when a pattern needs explaining
  • In staff trainings on emotional regulation and workplace wellness

What It Cannot Do

Knowing why something happens is not the same as changing it. Psychoeducation gets you started, and practice does the rest.

For Organizations

Tatiana offers psychoeducation to staff on mental health, emotional regulation, trauma-informed practices, and workplace wellness.

Common Questions

Is psychoeducation a substitute for therapy?

It is usually one part of it. For many people, learning the material is the opening they needed, and other work follows.

Do you offer it for teams?

Yes, in person or by telehealth.
